Lake Baptism This Sunday

Baptisms are incredible…

…baptisms in lakes are even better…

…baptisms in lakes followed by corn parties (a traditionally québecker way to celebrate the corn harvest by stuffing yourself with as much corn on the cob as physically possible) are almost impossible to beat.

This Sunday we’ll experience all 3 as several are baptized in Lac Achigan (Trout Lake)

Cynthia being baptized in a lake behind her house last summer.

Getting Involved Rather than Re-inventing the Wheel

Rather than inventing new ways to address physical needs in St Jérôme, we’ve decided, primarily, to get involved in already existing non-christian organizations.

Many churches can be afraid of this. They can be afraid that somehow partnering with a non-christian organization would mean that we are giving out cold water but not in Jesus’ name.

The opposite has been our experience here. The organizations we get involved in see first-hand what it means to follow Jesus Christ. We don’t need a government grant to do it. It’s simply part of loving our neighbor… or at least it SHOULD be. All of this has opened up some amazing doors into our community that we NEVER would have had without loving our community through established organizations.

Jacob’s work with l’Ami du Cartier (Friend of the neighborhood) has been amazing. His love for Jesus and love for others rarely shines brighter than when he’s meeting physical needs, because of spiritual realities, in Jesus’ name. He’s also leading the charge when it comes to helping children in need with homework, ably assisted by Jean-Sebastien Boilard and others.

Several families from our church helped out with a Corn Party hosted by l'Ami du Cartier (Friend of the Neighborhood). It's a great opportunity to love our neighbor

Saint Eustache (Église l’Oasis): One-Month to Launch (September 26, 2010)

Église l’Oasis of St Eustache is the second daughter church under our new strategy. They will launch Sunday morning services September 26th (celebrating my birthday of course). Here are a few things they have going for them:

  1. Phenomenal leadership beginning with Ken Taylor (a great & humble dude from Belgium).
  2. A solid core (passionate leaders for music, sound, children’s ministries, etc.) of 50+
  3. A great building (renting an older church building from a small group)
  4. A ton of interested contacts (they just finished up a huge push where around 200 people stated their interest in taking part in this new local body (not including the committed core).
  5. Your prayers as you read this.

At the north-western edge of the Montréal region, the target area of Saint-Eustache, Deux Montagnes, Ste-Marthe-sur-le-lac, and Laval-Ouest contain well over 100,000 inhabitants

10-Days in Ecuador (Video with English Subtitles)

Last Sunday morning, at 1:30am, after 26+ hours of travel, we arrived back in St Jérôme… just in time to grab a few minutes of shut-eye before sharing the trip with the entire church. Here is the video we shared… this time with English subtitles.

Thank you for all you did Titus, Stephanie, Sofia, and Mateo!

Thank you for praying as we walked through this emotional and amazing experience.

Leaving on a Jet Plane… to Guayaquil, Ecuador

Tonight (Monday), a team of 8 from our church in St Jérôme (Myself, Jacob, Julie, Suzanne, Jean-Christophe, Audrey, Lydia, Cynthia), will drive to JFK, then fly to Guayaquil to work with two orphanages with Titus & Stephanie Folden for 10 days. The French-Spanish connexion!

It’s one of our first steps in becoming a global church… and it has been so amazing to see québeckers embrace the vision of being a blessing both to St Jérôme, Québec, and the World… simultaneously.

Please pray for us as we serve orphans, that we would truly be a blessing, and that it would not simply be an incredible experience for us.

Here’s a video we put together showing where we are going and what we will be doing:

(I know it’s in French, but I bet you can figure out what it’s saying).
