Vous êtes invités: Un regard 9 sur Noël! (You’re invited: A new look at Christmas)

Ce dimanche nous plannifions deux répresentations: 10h00 et 13h00. Simplement, il n’y a pas assez de l’espace pour tout le monde dans une représentaiton. (This Sunday we’ve planned two services: 10am & 1pm. Basically, there isn’t enough room for everyone in one service, so we had to go to two.) Voici l’invitation (Here’s the invitation-with translation below):

Happy Thanksgiving! (and Happy 25th Birthday to Martine!)

Charlie Brown Snoopy Thanksgiving

Seriously, is there anyone who doesn't love Charlie Brown and Snoopy (and Woodstock and Linus and Peppermint Paddy and Lucy and Schroeder and Pig Pen, etc.)

Check out who we (Martine, Caleb, Constance and I) get to hang out with this thanksgiving in Saratoga Springs, NY:

  • My brother Paul. He’s going to Afghanistan as a Marine in January.
  • My sister Krista who lives in D.C., the most amazing journalist I’ve heard of (her husband Trevor can’t make it… he has to save lives instead).
  • My cousin Victoria: a poet who exudes talent and passion in everything she does.
  • My cousin Jorge: We are three weeks apart. My best friend growing up. Locker-partner in high school and roommate in college.
  • My cousin (in-law?) Emily (Jorge’s wife): the best biology teacher your kids could dream of.
  • Caden: Jorge & Emily’s son.
  • ???: And one is on the way.

I even just bought "A Charlie Brown Christmas" in English, as surprise (so sshh, don't tell Martine or Caleb or Constance).

As we bask in Food, Family, and Football, Mike Anderson asks us the question: “Are we going to commit gluttony or enjoy a feast?

Through Him then, let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that give thanks to His name. And do not neglect doing good and sharing, for with such sacrifices God is pleased. Hebrews 13:15-16

Today is Martine’s birthday!

I praise God for the voyage he’s brought us through up to this point. We are reaping the benefits of two people struggling to put Christ first in everything as He continues to reveal Himself to each of us  individually and as a couple.

Martine is a phenomenal mother, wife, friend, and confidant… all things that we are both learning in tandem.

Praise God for crossing our paths 12 years ago in Paris!

Below is a photo from that meeting way back in 1998, in Lognes, France (just outside of Paris):

Easter Photos: Yesterday was a full, amazing day…

…reveling in hope because He is risen! Several dozen attended for the first time.

  • For the first time, a publicly owned hall gave us permission to rent… even though we are a church (up to this point, the city has always turned us down, saying that the official policy is that “they don’t rent to churches”. The reason they said “yes” this time is a blog post all unto itself. I’ll share it soon). Merci l’Ami du Cartier!
  • The music was incredible as we worshiped our creator. Great job guys!
  • I took 20 minutes to present the reality of God’s existence.
  • Jacob read from Philip Yancey’s “The Jesus I Never Knew), all put to music with dozens resurrection images. You’ve got a gift Jacob!
  • Gilles & Nancy talked about hope, specifically Gilles’ hope as he received the news that he had prostate cancer. Two years ago he would have been crushed. But since Jesus transformed his life, his hope is placed in eternity. Thanks for the courage to share Gilles and Nancy!
  • The kids participated in a series of games lead by our youth group. What a phenomenal group of teenagers!
  • A potluck brunch was enjoyed by all… extremely well organized by Myriam!
  • The day ended with a huge Easter-age hunt with turns for each age-group. Everyone I spoke to loved it. Special thanks to Jacob for a great idea!

Here are some photos of the great day.

Quebec! #10: Quebeckers love St Huberts sauce. You dip your chicken in it. As an American, I find it to be… all right. Quebeckers flip out over it.

The chicken sauce (a kind of gravy) is at the far right. The other two are also very popular in Québec

Quebec! #9: Chicken! Quebeckers love it (Yet I haven’t yet met a quebecker that tolerates KFC… though they must exist somewhere). There’s a chicken restaurant on every other corner… whether a nice sit-down place or chicken to go.

St Hubert is by far the most popular chicken restaurant in Québec

Quebec! #6: Poutine baby! It’s Québec’s signature dish: French fries with cheese curds & gravy (otherwise known as a heart-attack in a cup).

...and obesity isn't as big of a problem in Quebec as some "other" places...

Quebec! #1. In Quebec, we love Ketchup Chips. That’s right, ketchup chips.
